My blog exists for about 1.5 years now and it truly has become my passion and my favorite hobby. It’s the best thing to do in my free time and I’m really happy with my blog. But why did I start my blog? Today I’ll explain my reasons of starting my travel blog!

I’ve been writing as long as I can remember. The first time I wrote was when I was 10 years-old and I found out that I loved writing. I wrote stories about all the things I could think of. This continued until I was sixteen years old and I always wrote long or short stories. I used to have stories of more than 150 pages and could write for hours every day. My imagination never ended and my creativity was thriving!

This ended when I was sixteen-seventeen. I think puberty completely took away my creativity and my imagination. I became very perfectionistic and I never got back into that writing vibe I had earlier in life. Nothing looked good, I wasn’t happy with what I wrote. So I stopped writing.

Writing was always my way of coping with everything. I gave it everything I had and I was almost like therapy for me. My mind would get so full of ideas: I just had to write them down and start a story. I think writing worked so well for me because I was always so in my own creative world.

I didn’t write for 4.5 years and just left it behind me. However, at some point: I started to think about writing again. I missed the times where I would just sit on my couch, have my laptop on my lap, drink a cup of tea and just write away while it was pouring outside. As usual with the Dutch weather. So I decided to start a blog.

Now, you guys, I think I started three blogs before this one. I could NEVER stay on it and keep on writing. Which is why I think it wasn’t the time I was supposed to write. I had to force it too much. But yeah, I did have three travel blogs before and they are complete rubbish.

Going up to March 2018. I had been thinking it for a little while and I really wanted to have a blog. It would make it much easier to start writing again because a blog post is much shorter than a story, obviously. You can write as much as you want and I thought I’d be great to get back into the writing game for real this time.

To make sure that I’d keep on going, I decided to go full in and buy a hosted plan and eventually go self-hosted. I feel like those things are the most motivating things ever. My website now is completely mine and that freedom and responsibility is absolutely motivating! As soon as I started writing in English for the first time (on the blog I mean) about Paris, it felt like home. I didn’t have to force myself to write it. It all became natural to me and I realized that it was the time to get back into writing!

Jumping 1.5 years ahead. I have missed a few weeks of uploading but I have uploaded every single month since March 2018 which I’m so happy about. It’s still something I love doing and I have so much fun doing it. I’m so passioned and disciplined about it now and I can’t imagine my life without blogging and writing.

As a big, big bonus to writing for my blog: I’m actually thinking about writing (short) stories again. Like I said, it’s feeling natural for me again, my creativity is back and my imagination is pretty solid at this moment.

It just shows me that you should never give up on dreams or passions. But I also think you shouldn’t force it if it doesn’t come natural or if you have to try too hard. There’s no shame in taking a (long) break to figure stuff out and come back stronger. Just make sure you aren’t afraid of trying it again. I think there’s no failing in that process. With every step you take, you’ll learn and you’ll see if it’s good to go or if you have to wait a little bit more. I’m so happy to have started writing again and I don’t know what I would do without my blog now!

I’d love to know what you guys’ passions are!

Love,

Melissa.
